The Eurasian continent, of which Europe is but one of its peninsulas, comprises, due to historical events spanning thousands of years, three vast civilisational areas: a) The West or Western Europe, which today also includes North and South America, Australia and New Zealand; b) The East or Far East, which includes three peninsulas: India, Southeast Asia (with Indonesia) and China (with Korea and Japan); c) The Intermediate Region, which partakes of both the East and the West.
